Welcome, below I publish the videos and the documentary relating to the second part of a Western Southern Safari trip which took place in Namibia.

Videos from our Namibia Safari Adventure

This article is a follow-up to the one dedicated to the first part of our extraordinary journey in Botswana.

Once again, I’ve decided to share the videos I published on my YouTube channel on the blog, offering anyone interested the opportunity to relive, step by step, the emotions of this unforgettable adventure through the wild and untouched lands of Africa.

Each shot captures the essence of places that seem to belong to another world: endless panoramas, golden sunrises painting the sky with incredible hues, close encounters with wildlife, and moments of pure wonder at the power of nature.

Through the videos, I want to convey not only the beauty of the landscapes, but also the sense of freedom and discovery that accompanied every stage of the journey.

From dusty roads crossing the desert to hidden paths through majestic canyons, each scene tells a unique story of hardship, wonder, and a genuine connection with the surrounding environment.

Watching these videos, you can hear the roar of engines on long, straight dirt roads, the wind blowing across the rocks and dunes of the desert, and the thrill of unexpected encounters with local wildlife.

All you have to do is click and let yourself be transported to the beating heart of Africa, where every day is an adventure worth experiencing.

Each episode is a piece of a magnificent puzzle, a fragment of history that fits perfectly into the story of an extraordinary journey.

Each video captures a unique moment, an emotion shared, transforming memories and experiences into vibrant and engaging images.

It is the construction, piece by piece, of a sensory map that leads straight to the heart of the adventure, capturing the scent of warm sand, the thrill of a close encounter with wildlife, the majestic silence of the canyons, and the wind caressing your skin in the vast African deserts.

Through each piece, the puzzle takes shape and reveals a story of freedom, discovery, and wonder, in which the most authentic essence of Africa manifests itself in all its splendor.

Every step, every glance, and every sunrise becomes part of a larger picture, which gradually unfolds and invites the viewer to be transported far away, where nature reigns supreme and the soul finds peace.

The documentary

The ultimate goal was to create a comprehensive documentary, capable of conveying the true essence of this extraordinary adventure, rich in visual detail and palpable emotion.

Each scene was designed to depict not only the places, but also the profound soul of Africa, where wild nature blends with the history and culture of ancient and fascinating lands.

I wanted everyone watching the documentary to feel the warmth of the sun on their face, the wind blowing across the dunes, and the adrenaline rush of a close encounter with the local wildlife.

In this second report, we focus on the Namibian leg of the journey, a territory that, with its extreme landscapes and poignant beauty, never ceases to amaze.

From the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei to the breathtaking views of the Fish River Canyon, passing through traditional villages and ghost towns like Kolmanskop, each stop is a small universe to explore. Namibia is not only a land of visual contrasts, but also of intertwined stories and deeply moving emotions.

Below, you’ll find videos of the most significant excursions, allowing you to experience every step and every discovery firsthand.

At the bottom of the page, the full documentary, divided into two parts, captures the essence of this wonderful adventure. Prepare to be transported by an intense and engaging visual narrative that will take you on a journey of both mind and heart.

In Episode 1 – 11/08/2024, the entrance to Etosha National Park

After a full day spent yesterday in the truck, covering the 630 kilometers that took us from Maun, Botswana, to Rundu, Namibia, another road challenge awaits us today: we leave very early as usual because we’ll be covering another 515 kilometers.

This stage, however, is special, as it marks our entry into the iconic Etosha National Park.

Here, the effort of the journey will be rewarded as we enter the park with the thrill of our first game drive, a unique opportunity to immerse ourselves in its pristine nature and observe its extraordinary wildlife up close.

In Episode 2 – 11/08/2024, Etosha rhinos at the waterhole at Halali Camp

For our second night in Namibia, we pitched our tents at Halali Camp, an iconic site within Etosha, renowned for its proximity to a waterhole accessible by a short walk.

From an elevated position, you can closely observe wildlife coming to drink, an unmissable opportunity for those who love to experience nature in its purest form.

The benches arranged around the waterhole offer a privileged vantage point, allowing guests to relax and, with a bit of luck, witness thrilling scenes from the comfort of their seats.

In Episode 3 – 12/08/2024, game drive at Etosha National Park

The name “Etosha” means “great white place,” a clear reference to the salt flats that form the central desert portion of the park.

This vast white pan is surrounded by savannahs, whose appearance changes with the seasons but, due to recent climate change, remains largely arid and dry for much of the year.

It is precisely in this context that the 86 waterholes surrounding it, both natural and artificial, become vital to the survival of the animals, acting as a magnet for every creature seeking refreshment.

The waterholes are the beating heart of the park, and the success of any game drive depends largely on visiting them.

Here, animals gather to drink, and these water oases become natural stages for extraordinary encounters, allowing visitors to observe the dynamics between predators and prey, herbivores and carnivores, in an environment as brutal as it is fascinating.

In Episode 4 – 13/08/2024, second Game Drive in Etosha and departure for Opuwo

We’ve reached the eleventh day of our trip, and as usual, we wake at dawn, ready to immerse ourselves in our final exciting adventure in Etosha.

The jeeps picked us up in the early hours of the morning to treat us to a final game drive, during which we spotted the many creatures that inhabit this vast park.

Today, however, the excitement of the safari must be balanced with the need to get underway early, as a long 575-kilometer transfer awaits us.

Our final destination is Opuwo, a small, vibrant town in the far north of Namibia, where modernity still meets tradition.

In Episode 5 – 14/08/2024, the visit to the Himba village of Omuangete

And here are the Himba women, imposing and captivating figures whose proud bearing immediately captures attention.

Tall and erect, like warriors from another era, they move with grace and confidence, embodying the pride of their ancient culture.

Their bodies and hair are entirely covered in a unique mixture: cow fat, goat butter, red ochre, ash, and perfumes that defy precise description, yet carry the aroma of earth, fire, and ancient traditions.

This paste, which protects their skin from the relentless desert sun and symbolically ties them to their land, gives the Himba an almost bronze hue, transforming them into living statues, gleaming under the warm light of the African sun.

Observing them is like glimpsing a fragment of history, where every gesture and aesthetic detail holds profound meaning, tied to rituals and customs passed down through generations.

There is a beauty in them that goes beyond appearances: it is the strength of an identity that resists time, rooted in their culture and the environment that surrounds them.

In Episode 6 – 08/14/2024, Omuangete School

After visiting the village, we had the opportunity to visit the Omuangete school, an experience that allowed us to immerse ourselves in the daily lives of local children and appreciate the dedication of the teachers.

In Episode 7 – 08/14/2024, Epupa Falls

A twenty-minute walk takes us to the Epupa Falls, an enchanting oasis nestled in the heart of an arid and wild land, where time seems to have stood still.

The crystalline green waters of the Kunene River stand out, creating a spectacular contrast with the bright red granite rocks, patiently sculpted by nature. Around us, towering baobab trees, swaying palms, and dense bushes form a landscape of lush vegetation, making this place a miracle of biodiversity.

As the river fan out, its waters rush with force and harmony in a series of cascades that, reaching the depths of a 70-meter gorge, create dozens of waterfalls.

In Episode 8 – 08/15/2024, the Ovahimba Living Museum

Despite initial reservations, the visit to the Ovahimba Living Museum proved to be a rich and stimulating experience.

Himba culture, with its many facets, is fascinating and complex, and being immersed in this reality was a precious opportunity to gain a firsthand understanding of a world that thrives on ancient traditions.

Thanks to the museum guide, we discovered customs, practices, and rituals that would have eluded us without his insights.

In Episode 9 – 16/08/2024, the petroglyphs of Twyfelfontein

Thanks to the ancient artists who carved the rocks of Twyfelfontein, we had the privilege of taking a journey into the past, immersing ourselves in stories from thousands of years ago.

Every engraving, every figure carved into the stone conveys an ancient tale, a fragment of life that has endured the passage of centuries.

The day is splendid, with a golden light that enhances the details of the rocks, highlighting every line and symbol left by the peoples who have lived in this region.

In Episode 10 – 08/16/2024, the Spitzkoppe

It’s certainly worthwhile to hike the entire mountain to admire its extraordinary forms at different times of day, because depending on your vantage point and the lighting, you can appreciate the different profiles and colors of this ancient granite massif.

We didn’t have time for this experience, but with our guide at our side, we were able to explore hidden corners and climb rocks smoothed by time and the elements, discovering extraordinary light and perspectives, and enjoying glimpses that will remain etched in our memory.

In Episode 11 – 08/17/2024, Cape Cross

Walking along the wooden walkway that winds between the rocks, you can admire the incredible liveliness of the colony: thousands of seals crowd the beach and the surrounding rocks, each busy with their own activities.

Some bask in the sun, others argue noisily over territory, while the pups—cute and funny—suckle from their mothers in bizarre positions, to say the least.

In Episode 12 – 08/17/2024, Skeleton Coast the wreck of the Zeila

The gray beach of the Skeleton Coast, with its raging waves crashing ashore, creates a breathtaking spectacle of wild nature and marine power.

A few kilometers from Henties Bay, halfway between Swakopmund and Cape Cross, lies the wreck of the Zeila, which ran aground on August 25, 2008.

This steel skeleton, still clearly visible and surprisingly well preserved, emerges from the water a few meters from the shore, offering an impression both eerie and majestic. Its hull has now become a permanent home for dozens of cormorants that, like sentinels, continually flock to it, adding a touch of life to this symbol of desolation.

In Episode 13 – 17/08/2024, Skeleton Coast, Walvis Bay desert tour 4×4

Entering the heart of the Namib is like being transported to another world, where time and space seem to dissolve in a sea of endless sand.

This exclusive adventure, possible only with expert guides, opens the doors to one of the most remote and inaccessible places on the planet, an ancient desert that holds breathtaking landscapes and age-old secrets.

As the off-road vehicles advance across the golden dunes that stretch to the ocean, we are enveloped by the grandeur of this solitary and powerful place.

Driving up and down the dunes is a thrilling experience, combining adrenaline and wonder with every climb and descent, leaving us breathless as we contemplate the vastness of this unchanged ecosystem.

Nature reigns supreme here, and we feel humbled by the magnificence of the desert, which silently tells stories of a world that exists beyond time and space.

In Episode 14 – 08/18/2024, the Tropic of Capricorn

On the road from Walvis Bay to Sossusvlei, two bright and unmistakable signs suddenly appear, one on each side of the road: they mark the Tropic of Capricorn.

There’s something special about crossing this imaginary line, a border we’ve only seen in atlases and globes, and now we find ourselves facing it, marked by a simple sign in the middle of nowhere.

It’s precisely the “great nothing” of the Namibian desert that makes the moment so unforgettable: the isolation of this sign, its solitary and slightly battered presence, frames the infinite vastness of this land, a place where geographical and mental boundaries blur.

We know it’s not a tourist attraction in the traditional sense, yet stopping here, in this place that marks the symbolic crossing of the Tropic, gives us a sense of achievement, as if we’ve crossed a threshold, an unusual milestone that not everyone has reached.

It doesn’t take long: a quick stop to take a photo, enjoy the magic of the desert, before setting off again for another long ride through the dunes and the boundless silence of the Namib.

In Episode 15 – 08/18/2024, Solitaire the McGregor Desert Bakery

On the way to Sossusvlei, we stopped in Solitaire, at the McGregor Desert Bakery, to sample a slice of their legendary apple pie.

This isn’t just a dot on the map or a gas station lost in the dusty heart of Namibia; without Moose McGregor, it would likely have remained a forgotten corner of the desert, a seemingly uncharted spot in the middle of nowhere.

But Moose, an eccentric Scotsman with an adventurous soul, has transformed this remote spot into a must-see for every traveler who travels these roads.

Solitaire has become a small sanctuary of stories and atmosphere, where time seems to slow down. Every corner of the bakery—from the rusty old cars dotting the landscape to the warm aroma of cinnamon and apples—tells a story.

And that slice of cake, soft and spicy, almost seems to embody the soul of this otherworldly place. Stopping here is not only a pleasure for the palate, but an experience that captures the charm of the desert: a bit of mystery, a bit of nostalgia, and a taste of a place that exists precisely because there is a story to tell.

In Episode 16 – 18/08/2024, Deadvlei

Walking through the clay depression of Deadvlei, the landscape transforms into a surreal scene. The skeletons of acacia trees, blackened by time, stand like perfectly positioned sculptures, forming a striking contrast with the red sand dunes and the luminous white clay.

It’s like being in an open-air natural museum, where every tree seems to tell ancient stories, suspended in the silence of the desert.

These dark, gnarled forms become emblems of the fragility and resilience of life itself, immobile witnesses to a time when water still flowed here.

Deadvlei is not only a captivating landscape, it is also a warning: it speaks to us of climate change, of the slow but inexorable transformation of the land, which has transformed a fertile lake into an arid, lifeless expanse.

In this extreme scenario, nature leaves us a clear and profound message, inviting us to reflect on our natural history and how much it depends on the delicate balances we sustain.

In Episode 17 – 08/18/2024, Dune 45

After walking among the iconic black acacia trees of Deadvlei, we set off again, crossing spectacular landscapes to reach another jewel of the Sossusvlei area: the majestic Dune 45.

The route itself is a journey into the desert’s most authentic beauty. As we advance, the dunes become increasingly imposing, waves of sand rising elegantly against the clear sky, creating sinuous and perfect profiles.

Each dune is a unique work of art: some boast a name that tells a story, while most are identified simply by a number indicating the kilometers from the entrance to Sossusvlei National Park.

Dune 45, with its fine red sand, is one of the most photographed and beloved, not only for its beauty but also for its accessibility.

In Episode 18 – 08/19/2024, Luderitz

After the long drive from Sesriem, we arrive in Lüderitz, a picturesque town on Namibia’s southwest coast with a small harbor overlooking the Atlantic. We have time for a long, relaxing stroll.

Founded in 1883 by German shipowner Adolf Lüderitz, it became the first nucleus of the German protectorate of South West Africa.

Originally devoted to fishing and port activities, the town experienced its heyday with the discovery of rich diamond deposits in 1908, which attracted thousands of fortune seekers.

Today, with the mines exhausted, Lüderitz thrives on its port, fishing, oyster farming, and tourism. Its charm lies in its distinctly German-inspired architecture, particularly the Felsenkirche, the evocative “church on the rocks,” and its atmosphere suspended between sea and desert.

The quiet streets, the uncrowded seafront and the spectacular sunsets over the sea complete the picture of this unique location, a corner of Bavaria nestled between the dunes of the Namibian desert and the rushing waves of the Atlantic.

In Episode 19 – 08/20/2024, Kolmaskop

In Kolmanskop, abandoned homes offer a surreal spectacle of great photographic appeal.

The buildings, once symbols of wealth and prosperity, are now evocative settings where nature is slowly regaining control.

Sand, incessantly carried by the wind, has blown through open doors and windows, sometimes piling up to half the height of the rooms, creating golden dunes that shape the interiors with sinuous, ever-changing forms.

This contrast between human architecture and the unstoppable power of nature yields extraordinary images, where light and shadow dance on dusty surfaces, enhancing the sense of mystery and melancholy that envelops this ghost town.

A place suspended in time, perfect for those seeking unique and evocative scenes to capture.

In Episode 20 – 08/21/2024, the Fish River Canyon

Fish River Canyon is a marvel sculpted by time, a geological testament to the extraordinary force of nature.

Its origins date back to an earthquake that created a deep rift valley, allowing the river to embark on its relentless work of erosion.

For millions of years, water and weather have continued to shape the landscape, carving ever deeper trenches and creating what is now the second largest canyon in the world.

Extending 160 kilometers in length, up to 27 kilometers wide, and exceeding 500 meters in some places, Fish River Canyon is a breathtaking natural wonder.

At its bottom, the Fish River flows only seasonally, leaving a dry, sun-cracked riverbed for much of the year, a perfect contrast to the majesty of the rock walls that tower above it.

And finally the travel documentaries.
